Looking for MN nurse massage therapists to help me out with a few questions.  How does massage therapy fall under the scope of practice for RN?  I am an RN currently enrolled in a massage therapy program.  My other question, is do you carry both malpractice insurance for an RN and Massage therapist?  Or would Massage therapy be covered by RN insurance.  Any info would be appreciated.

I am currently a massage therapy instructor at Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Jackson, MN and am interested in focusing my independent study more towards infant massage. I would like to approach the medical community in my home town of Worthington on the idea of training, to start off with, the nurses on the pediatric floor to use massage with the infants. Has anyone out there done this and how did you go about approaching the hospital board? I have a good idea of what I am going to do but welcome additional thoughts.

I am going to graduate in May 2005 with my BSN, and have explored the idea of massage therapy and nursing for my future career. I am just starting my research in this field, but if anyone has any info for me, as I live in ND, and it is still a little vague and nontraditional for this area, I would greatly appreciate it. Great site!

I have been an RN (with a BS) for 20 yrs., and a new LMT, since 2003. Presently, I am teaching in a LPN program. I have my own office, and am having a great time. I was trained in AMMA, and Swedish. Question: how do I get started in the hospital setting-- possibly approaching the nursing department in a hosp? Also, I don't see anyone from New York....Contact me!

I am a nurse and I work three days a week at the detox unit of a nearby psychiatric hospital, just to keep in touch with people. The rest of the time I spend researching the literature on medical or clinical massage. Feel free to visit my website as I have nothing there for sale. All information concerns clinical applications of therapeutic massage and bathing and the therapeutic modalities by which effective treatment might be given. Feel free to download anything you wish, and use it to advance your own practice, to give interviews to local publications and to prepare talks to give to colleagues, interested physicians and members of the general community. And feel free to email me about any related matter. I know this materials very, very well.

Well I actually used to be the State rep for Arkansas who knows how many years ago. I have been a massage therapist since 1973. Now I am a Family Nurse Practitioner. Massage and getting people out of pain is my first love. After 5000+ treatments of deep tissue massage...well you can guess what happened. I now am out of my own pain with special instruments that actually vibrate over soft tissue restrictions and find the pain as well as my hands. Hard to believe...I am now able to use these tools and use my expertise again. With these tools I also do not fatigue my hands and body. Look at the Graston-Hall Method site. Email me to discuss. These tools are only sold to professionals and I believe nurses qualify. I am the first FNP to have them and I would like to share the experiences. I love massage. I just couldn't keep doing it without help. I think some of you might be happy to have these. I get kind of sick when I can't work my gift on folks. I am glad to be out of pain too. I am glad to have found this site. I saw the group disolve, re-grow itself, many changes and I got lost too. Glad to be back. Touch is a wonderfull gift. We are truely blessed to recognise this. Thanks to those who kept the association going.....Mary

Yes! I´ve just read an article about the NANMT in a magazine concerning "complementary medicine". I became very happy about this article and really look forward to see how nurses can integrate different manual therapies into the everlasting flow of pills and pills and pills!! Over here, in Sweden, the National Board of Health slowly realises that nurses have an enormous potential when it comes to treating a person, on all levels, before/ during/after a stay at any kind of healthcare facility. Great! Says Christian - Paramedic Nurse, Sweden.

I am a continuing education provider for massage therapists and I think Nursing boards should have the juridiction over massage therapy. The massage profession needs help if one does not have another healthcare license to depend on for living expenses and proper education. I think massage therapy is wonderful but fast becoming a money making opportunity for schools and a struggling career for the massage graduate.

I've been a registered nurse for 8 years now and couldn't find my niche. Every type of nursing was dissapointing for me, either too fast paced, or too dependant on insurance for determining when patients were well. I am graduating from Central Massachusetts School for Massage and Therapy in October - actually my last class is tonight. I feel my nursing background has helped mold me into an exceptional therapist. I am finally making people feel good - better even! And with my own two hands. b>I am very excited to see your website and to know about your association, as I am an RN who graduated 2 years ago from Health Enrichment Center in LaPeer, MI. The sole reason I went to massage school was to do hospice massage and or any massage with the elderly, sick and/or dying...especially in the hospital or clinic setting. This has been my hearts desire, yet, there is no place around here who is employing 'nurse massage therapists' and it is very frustrating and discouraging....what IS the future for a nurse massage therapist who wants to work in a hospital/hospice setting??? If I join your organization, will that help me to find work in this field??? Working in a salon is not for me and I want to give up my public health position (school nurse) and massage full time within an organization... Thanks for listening.

I have been a psychiatric nurse for 17 years. Have also worked in the education department of psych facility. I recieved a gift certificate for a massage for my birthday a few years ago, after a surgery. I was amazed at how much better it made me feel. I will graduate from massage therapy school in December. I was so glad to find this sight. I ideally want to get my nurse practitioner's licensure and use it with my massage therapy to provide a more holistic approach for patients with physical and emotional diagnoses. This site will be a wonderful resource for me. Thanks.

I have been an RN for 16 yrs, in a variety of areas, and am currently pursuing my 500 hrs, and national certification. I find bodywork to be the most rewarding, healing practice I have ever done. This is what I went into nursing for, to be able to connect with people, work with them and see the results!

It's a wonderful experience, a wonderful combination.

WOW! I never expected to find an organized group of nurses who are also massage therapists. I was looking for information on how to get our newly formed hospital based massage therapy program up to JCAHO standards, and I found this site. Any suggestions? I am looking forward to exploring it further!

i have been in nursing for the past 25 years, with varied specialties through the years including pediatrics, psych and currently alcohol and drug rehab. i have recently graduated from massage school and earned my national certification. i have been struggling to acquire a client base, have sought a salon position, and have been trying to become involved with some young retiree communities to provide massage services. needless to say summer in south florida is slow as far as buiness is concerned. i have been tossing around the idea of combining my nursing background with massage but i haven't a clue where to begin. i would appreciate it if someone would respond with some ideas. thanks in advance!

b>I am very excited to see your website and to know about your association, as I am an RN who graduated 2 years ago from Health Enrichment Center in LaPeer, MI.

I am an RN, BSN, LMT with 26 years of varied experience in nursing. I recently graduated from Universal Therapeutics Massage Institute in Albuquerque, NM. I currently work part time in psychiatric nursing and have a private practice providing massage and reflexology. Most of my clients are nurses and nurse managers. Except for Santa Fe, New Mexico is not very open to having nurse massage therapists working in the hospital setting. It is my plan to encourage the provision of massage for healing in the hopital setting. I am open to references or personal experiences by anyone having been involved in initial start ups in a hospital setting. I look forward to hearing from other members and the comradery of fellow nurse massage therapits.

I'm a registered Nurse in the operating room and a Massage Therapist in the Rehab. Dept. at the same hospital. I also do massage therapy part-time at the University of Eau Claire(Wisconsin). I enjoy both professions. My M.T. course was 650 hours at Northern Lights School Of Massage Therapy in Minneapolis, Mn. I'm visiting this site because I'm interested in an organization combining both fields professionally. Thanks. Judy M. Sommerfeld R.N./L.M.T.

Great website! I am a R.N. B.S.N. who received my license in 1995.I have not worked since last year after working 4 years as a med-surg nurse and1.5 years as a public health nurse. I was thinking of leaving the nursing profession altogether. but I have been looking at other alternatives. A nurse massage therapist sounds like what I've been looking for. Please send me any information you might have on programs in my area......Thanks and keep up the great work!

What a wonderful suprise to find this webpage. I am a reg. nurse and practicing midwife, who has now trained as a massage therapist. My interest is in "caring for the carers", and much of my massage work is with nurses, midwives and doctors. I am looking at relocating to California, and am busy organising my registration
