The Classes, Presenters, and Instructors

1.Wayne Phillips, Ph.D., FACSM is Founder and CEO of AgeWELL Initiatives, a consulting company with extensive international experience and expertise in wellness, wellness program design and health-related fitness.

Dr. Phillips , an internationally recognized presenter and author, is an inspirational, humorous and thought-provoking speaker who elicits ‘new thinking’ from audiences about wellness and active lifestyle issues for older adults.

Dr. Phillips will deliver his Keynote: Engage with Self, Engage with Life: the Key to Successful Aging, and will be presenting his General Session Workshop: Intrinsic Wellness™ a Meaningful Approach to Health-related Behavior Change.

2.Don Campbell is a recognized authority on the transformative power of music, listening, and The Mozart Effect®. In Campbell's unique view, music is not only a rich and rewarding aesthetic experience but an easily accessible bridge to a more creative, intelligent, healthy, and joy-filled life. His singular mission is to help return music to its central place in the modern world as a resource for growth, development, health, and celebration.

Campbell is the author of nine books, including the 1997 best-seller, The Mozart Effect®. In this book, Campbell provides compelling evidence of the influence of particular sounds, tones, and rhythms on mental performance and spiritual outlook, as well as in the treatment of disease. Interweaving the riveting stories of ordinary men and women with solid research by doctors, psychologists, and music therapists, The Mozart Effect® shows how music can be used to improve memory and learning, boost productivity, soothe jangled nerves, strengthen endurance, unlock creative impulses, sound away pain, and heal the body from a host of ailments.

3.Nationally known instructor, Joyce Garland, RN, LMT, will be presenting an overview of geriatric massage. Four break out sessions, with guest speakers, will offer in depth coverage on modulating massage with various challenging health issues. Geriatrics is a growing field with growing needs for a high touch approach.

Joyce serves as a senior instructor/therapist at the Daybreak Geriatric Massage Institute out of California, and has worked exclusively with geriatric patients for over 20 years. Learn important skills from a master!

4.Teresa Kelechi, PhD, RN, Associate Professor, College of Nursing, Medical University of South Carolina, will teach the material on the pathophysiology of peripheral vascular disease and peripheral neuropathy as related to diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Kelechi is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse as a Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist whose clinical practice centers on wound and skin care for high-risk individuals with diabetes and vascular diseases.
She's a teacher, a researcher, an innovator. One of her projects involved the use of infrared thermometry to prevent lower extremity leg wounds in patients with chronic venous insufficiency.

Dr. Kelechi serves as a great resource and mentor for nurses and massage therapists who work with older adults. For all her scholarly achievments, Cam Spencer says about Dr. Kelechi: "her teaching style is both professional and entertaining".

5. Cam Spencer, RN, LMT, former NANMT President, will provide the Nurse Massage Therapist's approach to nursing care of clients with peripheral vascular disease. A wonderful adjunct to Teresa Kelechi's insights into pathophysiology of diabetes and peripheral vascular conditions. Don't miss this workshop!

Ms Spencer serves as a shining model of how a nurse can fully integrate massage skills into nursing care. She has a wealth of clinical experience with the elderly, currently holds the position of Wellness Coordinator at the Canterbury House (a seniors' facility), and four years of experience as an instructor at the Southeastern School of Neuromuscular and Therapeutic Massage in Charleston, SC.
